JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/16/2009 - Sam Giesler has signed to continue her softball career at Union University. Giesler, a native of Martin, Tenn., will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in pre-professional dentistry.
Giesler, 5-foot-7 infielder, prepped at Westview High School in Martin, Tenn. where she played four season of softball for J.B. Suiter. She helped lead the team to district titles in 2007 and 2008, region title in 2008 and sixth place finishes in the state tournament in both 2007 and 2008. Giesler is a three-time all-district, two time Gold Glove award winner, two-time Leadership award winner, two-time All-West Tennessee, twice named 13AA All-Tournament and earned the Silver Slugger award. During her career, she hit .379.
Giesler also spent a season as a member of the cheerleading squad that won the 2005-06 state title and finished second in nationals.
Off the field, Giesler was her class treasurer as a sophomore and senior and was twice a HOSA officer.
Giesler is the daughter of Dianna McMinn of Martin.
