Union men take first loss of season 1-0 at Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - 9/1/2009 - The Union University Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season with a 1-0 defeat at Milligan (Tenn.) College. Union’s record dropped to 1-1, while Milligan improved to 2-0.

A goal in the 79th minute of play for Milligan broke the scoreless tie. Sandre Wilson’s game winning goal, assisted by Nahom Tetkle, was the only shot to get past Union goalie Mike Phelan. Phelan played the second half, recording three saves during his time in the net. J. Landham of Union recorded four saves during his 45 minutes in the first half of the match. Milligan goalie Brian Newbold recorded seven saves for the shutout win.

The teams were also close in total shots taken with Milligan taking the slim edge 16 shots to 15 for Union.

Up next for Union will be another road game on Thursday, September 3 in Cleveland, Miss. when the Bulldogs battle NCAA DII Delta State University. Union’s next home match is Friday, September 11 versus Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
