JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/3/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team posted a 7-2 win over Emmanuel (Ga.) College in their season opener on Friday night. Union starts 1-0 while, Emmanuel dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Union’s Samantha Gase led the way with a hat trick of three goals, all scored within a five-minute span.
Union head coach Brandon Boylan says, “It was a great first match. I was proud of the patience the girls showed tonight and the way they finished their scoring opportunities.”
Union score first with a goal from Steffi King in the 15th minute. Just 30 second later, Union’s Gase scored the first of her three consecutive goals. Union led 4-0 in the 20th minute. Kyndal Bradford scored two straight goals to put Union up 6-0, before Emmanuel’s Jordana Schultz put her team on the board just before the half. Union led 6-1 at the break.
In the second half, a goal from Union’s Terilyn Wassell in the 55th minute and a goal from Emmanuel’s Ashlee Shapland set the final at 7-2.
Union got assists from King (2), Rachel Boswell, Bradford. Sarah White played the first 63 minutes in goal and faced not shots. Emily Warren finished the game, recording one save in her 27 minutes of work.
Up next for Union will be a home match on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5:00 p.m. versus NCAA DII Delta State (Miss.) University. These matches are a part of the Union University Classic.
