JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/28/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team defeated Georgetown (Ky.) College 2-1. Union improved to 8-0 on the season, while Georgetown dropped to 1-8.
Union took the lead in the first half on a goal from Krister Andreassen in the 36th minute of play. Just three minutes later, Jordan Thompson put Union up 2-0 with his goal, assisted by William Murray. Union took the 2-0 lead into the half.
The score remained 2-0 late into the second half when Stephen Johnson of Georgetown put his Tigers on the board in the 83rd minute of play. This marked the first goal Union has allowed in their five home and only the second goal in their eight games this season. Despite the late goal by Georgetown, Union held on for the 2-1 win.
Union’s Mike Phelan earned the win in goal with 90 minutes of play, only facing one shot on goal. Steven Baumfaulk of Georgetown recorded four saves. Union out-shot Georgetown 18-4 in the match, including 6-1 in shots on goal.
Up next for Union will be another home match on Saturday, October 2 versus Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 6:00 p.m.
