Union men’s soccer tops Martin Methodist 1-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/19/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team posted a 1-0 win over Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College. Union improved to 12-2 on the season and 3-2 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 6-4-2 overall and 3-4 in league play.

In the first half, Union scored on a goal from Diego Santos in the 33rd minute to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. For Santos, it was his team-best 10th goal of the season. Union controlled the first half, out-shooting Martin Methodist 10-2, including 5-0 in shots on goal. The score was 1-0 at the half.

Martin Methodist picked up the pace in the second half as they produce seven shots, including two on goal over the first 30 minutes of play. Union managed just two shots during that same stretch. However, Union’s defense and the reigning TranSouth defensive player of the week, Rainer Hauss preserved the 1-0 lead.

Hauss finished with two saves, while James Colman had five saves and just one goal allowed in his 90 minutes in goal for the RedHawks. Union out-shot Martin Methodist 14-9 in the match, including 6-2 in shots on goal.

Up next for Union will be their senior night on Friday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. versus Christian Brothers (Tenn.).
