JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/28/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-17) win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) College on Thursday night. Union improved to 20-7 on the season and 11-1 in TranSouth play. Mid-Continent dropped to 5-26 overall and 0-14 in league play.
The win for Union also clinched the 2010 TranSouth Conference regular season title. Union has a three game lead with just two conference games remaining. This marks the fourth TranSouth regular season title four Union in the history of the program (1999, 2000, 2004, 2010).
On senior night, Union wasted no time in jumping out to a big lead as they led 14-3 in the first set. Union led again 17-9, and then scored the final eight points of the set to win 25-9.
In the second set, Union led 4-0 and then 13-5 before cruising to a 25-11 win. The third set was closer as Mid-Continent tied Union on three times with the latest coming 8-8. Union held a slim 15-14 lead before scoring 10 of the final 13 points to seal the win.
Senior’s Heather Lieberman and Marcela Madeira led with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Senior Kelsey Duling led with 23 digs. Emmie Moroski added 34 assists, while Caroline Robbins and Anna Sims led with two blocks each.
Mid-Continent was led by Kristin Selph with eight kills and Lindsey Davis with 17 assists.
Up next for Union will be two road conference games on Tuesday at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Thursday at Cumberland (Tenn.) to close out the regular season.
