HENDERSON, Tenn. - 11/8/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-23) win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University in first round action. Top-seeded Union improved to 23-7 on the season, while No. seed Mid-Continent dropped to 6-27 overall.
Union and Mid-Continent played a tight first half of set one, before Union pulled away for the 25-17 win. In set number two, Union controlled played to cruise to the 25-11 win. In set three, it seemed that Union would quickly put Mid-Continent away as the Lady Bulldogs led 16-6. Mid-Continent then outscored Union 17-8 to cut the Union lead down to 24-23. However, an attack by Mid-Continent went into the net to give Union the win.
Union swept the season series with Mid-Continent, winning both regular season meetings 3-0.
Union was led by Marcela Madeira with 10 kills. Caroline Robbins added nine kills. Emmie Moroski recorded 3 assists, Kelsey Duling led with 16 digs, while Madeira led with three blocks.
Mid-Continent was led by Kristin Selph and Katie Perry with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Lindsey Davis had 25 assists, and Selph led with 16 digs.
Up next for Union will be a second round match versus No. 4 seeded Cumberland (Tenn.) University at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Henderson, Tenn.
