Chan passes 1,500 career points, Hudson at 700 assists

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/10/2011 - Sarah Chan and Kayla Hudson of Union (Tenn.) University each reached significant career milestones in the same game as No. 1 Union moved to 15-0 on Saturday. Chan passed 1,500 points, while Hudson reached the 700 career assist mark.

Chan, a 6-foot-4 senior center from Sudan, reached 1,500 career points. Chan needed just six of her 20 points in the game to reach the career milestone. She is also just 94 rebounds away from 1,000 boards for her career. Chan has 1,514 career points (12.4) and 906 career rebounds (7.4) in 122 career games. Chan’s average points per game has increased every season starting at 7.0 as a freshman, 10.9 as a sophomore, 15.1 as a junior and currently 22.6 as a senior. Chan was named an NAIA All-American in 2010, including the national tournament MVP award and a second straight NAIA National Title.

Hudson, a 5-foot-8 senior guard from Gleason, Tenn., continues to push the Union all-time assist record higher and higher as she now sits at 700 for her career. Hudson became Union’s all-time assist leader last season as a junior when she surpassed the mark of 611 assists. She did so in Union’s opening game of the 2010 national tournament. Hudson has 1,396 career points (11.0) and 700 career assists (5.5) in 127 games. She has started every game for Union in each of her four seasons. Her best season in assists per game was 7.1 as a freshman. However, Hudson has taken on more of a scoring roll as a senior with a career best 14.9 points per game, while still averaging 4.9 assists per game. Hudson has been named to the NAIA All-American list in all three years at Union. She has helped Union win two national titles and three TranSouth Conference titles.

Hudson (Feb. 4, 2010) and Chan (Feb. 11, 2010) reached 1,000 career points last season as juniors. During their careers, the duo has led Union to a combined record of 123-4.

Union is currently 15-0 on the season and 2-0 in the TranSouth. Union has been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for 39 straight weeks.
