Top ranked Union adds Waynesboro standout for 2012-13 season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/18/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team is planning ahead with the announcement of the signing of Kelsey Risner. Risner will graduate from Wayne County (Tenn.) High School in 2012 before entering Union in the fall.

Risner, a 5-foot-9 guard, is a junior at Wayne County (Tenn.) High School where she plays basketball for Coach Byrd. Her team is currently 16-1 on the season and ranked No. 2 in the state rankings. Wayne County is coming off a 20-12 season in which they advanced to the state quarterfinals.

She was named all-region and all-district as a freshman and sophomore. Risner helped lead her team to the sub-state in 2009 and the state tournament in 2010, following district and region titles both seasons. Risner is averaging 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists per game. Off the court, Risner was a member of the Beta Club, Interact, Y2Y, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was on the Principal's List.

Union is currently 18-0 on the season and 4-0 in the TranSouth. Union is ranked No. 1 for the 41th straight ranking in the NAIA and is currently riding a 23-game winning streak.
