2002 Lady Bulldog Tennis Season Outlook

Union enters the spring of 2002 with a young team, but are expecting great things. Preseason ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, the Lady Bulldogs are looking to be a competitive team to once again battle for the TranSouth Conference championship and then move on to the NAIA Regionals and Nationals.

This year's team has only one senior, Ashley Young from Bartlett, Tennessee. Coach Williams is counting on Young to help lead this squad through their season. Also returning in 2002 are sophomores Barbara Nkozama and Paula Coutinho. They will build on last year's experience that will help lead the groug of newcomers.

New to Coach Williams and Union are Veronica Cortes, Anna Katherine Curlee, Courtney Ross, and Rachel Walker. These players will work hard to contribute in their many opportunities during the year.

Young and Cortes will be playing the upper positions while Nkozama, Coutinho, Curlee, and Ross will follow. As for doubles, Young and Cortes were pre-season ranked No. 12 in the nation. They will lead the Union double teams in competition during the season.

Each player this season realizes they must take full advantage of every opportunity, no matter what age they are. Union plays a tough schedule both in and out of conference, but they have the talent necessary to put together a winning season.
