JACKSON, Tenn. – Aug. 23, 2006 – Jimmy Davis has been appointed to the newly established position of vice president for the Germantown campus of Union University and director of institutional effectiveness.
Davis has been Union’s vice provost since 2004 and was associate provost from 1998-2004. He has served Union in various positions since 1978, when he began as assistant professor of chemistry. In addition to his other responsibilities, Davis is also a university professor of chemistry.
“Dr. Davis has a reputation as a thoughtful scholar in the areas of science and faith,” Union University President David S. Dockery said. “I know him to be a good listener, a skilled administrator and a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. He loves this university and will work hard to advance our shared mission for the good of the Union community.”
In his new role, Davis will represent the Germantown campus on Union’s Senior Leadership Team and on the President’s Cabinet, where key budget, program and personnel decisions are often made. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Germantown campus, and will serve as the administration’s representative to various constituencies in Shelby County.
Davis is a 1970 graduate of Union University, with a degree in chemistry. He earned his doctorate degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois.
Davis lives in Germantown and is a member of Germantown Baptist Church.
