JACKSON, Tenn. – Sept. 30, 2008 – Union University economists and local representatives from the brokerage industry will discuss the U.S. economic situation in an Oct. 6 panel discussion.
“The Economic Summit: Main Street vs. Wall Street” is sponsored by Union’s McAfee School of Business, Students In Free Enterprise and Phi Beta Lambda. Union economics professors Walton Padelford, Howard Newell and Kenny Holt will participate in the discussion. Other experts from the community have also been invited.
“We’ll discuss how we’ve gotten into this situation in the first place, how serious it is, could it really lead to a banking crisis and depression and what the alternatives are to getting us out of the mess,” Holt said. “If there is a resolution in place, we’ll discuss that. The emphasis will be on trying to explain it and its impact on the average citizen.”
If time allows, Holt said the panelists will entertain questions from the audience.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, located in the Barefoot Student Union Building. It is free and open to the public.
