Union’s Germantown campus, Olford Center to honor King through service event

JACKSON, Tenn.Jan. 9, 2009 – The Germantown campus and Stephen Olford Center of Union University will hold a day of celebration and service Jan. 19 to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

The Union campuses will work with True Light Baptist Church in Memphis on the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. with a joint worship service at the church. Following that service, Union nursing students will provide health screenings at Parkview Apartments from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Education professors and Union staff will also read to children at the apartments from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and the dance ministry of True Light Baptist Church will perform at the apartments.

Students, faculty and staff from the Germantown and Olford campuses will participate in all the events. All classes at those two campuses will be canceled for the day.
