Union University Hendersonville adds Doctor of Education degree

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn.Dec. 21, 2009 – Union University Hendersonville recently announced it will expand its degree offerings to include a Doctor in Education degree.

Tom Rosebrough, dean of Union’s College of Education and Human Studies, and Charles Lea, executive director of the Hendersonville campus, made the formal announcement in November at Hendersonville’s City Hall before a group of city officials, educators and school administrators.

The Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership is the highest professional degree in education. Students will select an area of specialization for the degree in either School Administration or Higher Education.

“This degree provides educators in the Sumner County and middle Tennessee area a unique opportunity,” Lea said. “Educators and school administrators can now locally pursue the highest professional degree in their fields.”

Union University Hendersonville is now accepting applications for the Doctor of Education program. A limited number of students will be admitted to the first offering of the program which will begin in February 2010.

The degree program uses the cohort approach, which accepts students in groups who will begin their series of courses and experiences together. Courses are primarily offered at the Hendersonville campus with some blended online courses. Degree completion should take about four years.

“The addition of the Doctor of Education degree to the Hendersonville campus illustrates Union’s commitment to the middle Tennessee area,” Lea said. “We are so pleased with the interest in our programs and expansion of our curriculum.”
