JACKSON, Tenn.June 20, 2011 – About 570 new Union University students – both freshmen and transfers – were on campus June 20 as part of new student registration.

Cameron Wilson, of San Bernardino, Calif., will be a freshman at Union in the fall and said she chose the university because of the way she was treated by faculty, staff and students.

“Out of the all the colleges I was looking into, I was treated the most personably here,” Wilson said. “People just really took care of me in the whole process of getting here. People cared about me as a person and not just as a number, and that really meant a lot.”

New student registration provided incoming students with opportunities to meet with their advisers to select their fall courses. They also saw their assigned room in the residence halls and met their roommates, attended a campuswide picnic where they dined with faculty and attended a student life fair where they learned about clubs and organizations on campus.

Parents attended sessions with topics of interest to them.

Haaken Magnuson, an incoming freshman from Louisville, Ky., said he decided to attend Union because Christian higher education was important to him.

“I thought it was really important for me to come to a Christian university and really grow throughout these next four years,” he said. “I knew Union was a place that could help me do that – love God with my heart, soul and mind. I’m really looking forward to experiencing that here at Union.”

Union President David S. Dockery expressed gratitude for “another strong class of talented and gifted new students.”

“These students have chosen Union University for its distinctive mission and quality faculty, and we trust that the next four years will be a wonderful and blessed experience for each one,” he said.
