Social work conference to address human trafficking

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 24, 2012 – Union University will host a social work conference on human trafficking March 1.

“Human Trafficking: Seeing-Responding” is designed to educate participants about the human trafficking occurring in Tennessee, with sessions addressing current efforts to end the practice from the view of law enforcement, community advocates and survivor aftercare organizations.

The conference will benefit social workers, community agency workers, law enforcement personnel, the faith community and students.

Sponsored by Union’s School of Social Work, End Slavery Tennessee and the Southwest Council on Children and Youth, the conference runs from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center.

Cost is $40, or $60 to obtain 5.5 continuing education units. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at www.uu.edu/events/socialwork or by calling (731) 661-5554.

Union University Announcement for March 5

Due to inclement weather, the Jackson campus will be closed on Thursday, March 5, with all day classes canceled. A decision on evening classes will be made by noon on Thursday.

The Hendersonville campus is closed.

The wellness center will open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., and the aquatic center will be open from 1-3 p.m.
