JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 28, 2012 – Image journal has named Bobby Rogers, professor of English and writer in residence at Union University, as its artist of the month for February.

“Bobby C. Rogers has an uncanny ability to wring what is profound and surprising from what appears humble and ordinary,” the journal said. “In the words of Andrew Hudgins, he is ‘a near mystic of the domestic.’”

Image is a literary and arts quarterly founded in 1989 for writing and artwork that is informed by religious faith.

“Rogers’ gentle, confident voice reveals a spaciousness in commonplace things,” the journal said. “He can almost make you believe that the world around you, the very room you’re sitting in, no matter how unpoetic it may appear, holds the answers to the most profound questions in creation.”

Rogers said he was honored by the recognition.

“Every Christian artist with a serious vocation is aware of what’s going on at Image,” Rogers said. “I’m always thrilled to have a poem in the paper and ink journal, and I was doubly gratified that the editors thought highly enough of my work to feature it for a month on their website.”

The full site, which includes a more detailed description of Rogers’ work as well as a short biography and a link to one of Rogers’ poems, is available at imagejournal.org/page/artist-of-the-month/bobby-rogers.
