JACKSON, Tenn. – June 27, 2012 – The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Board of Directors has granted full accreditation status to the Doctor of Pharmacy program at Union University.
ACPE is the national agency for accrediting pharmacy education programs.
The decision follows a series of site visits and a detailed evaluation process in which ACPE reviewed the program’s mission and goals, strategic plan, curriculum, teaching methods, facilities, faculty, the overall strength of the university and other factors.
The initial steps in that process began in 2008, shortly before Union admitted its initial class for the program. The university awarded its first Doctor of Pharmacy degrees in May.
Following a site visit in early April of this year, the evaluation team issued a report of its findings to the full board for consideration. That report said Union’s Doctor of Pharmacy program was in compliance with all 30 of the ACPE standards.
“The entire Union University community joins me in congratulating Dean Sheila Mitchell and the faculty of the School of Pharmacy on receiving this splendid news from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education,” Union President David S. Dockery said. “The recognition of full accreditation for Union's School of Pharmacy program is a most encouraging affirmation for current and future students, and a testament to the quality of teaching and research being carried out by our fine faculty.”
