JACKSON, Tenn.May 6, 2014 – Her friends say an evening of music is a fitting way to remember Olivia Greenlee.

“We Remember” is a benefit concert to support the Olivia Greenlee Memorial Scholarship fund. It will be held Saturday, May 10, in the sanctuary of West Jackson Baptist Church.

“Olivia’s life was filled with singing,” said Chris Mathews, associate professor of music and department chair. “Whatever tribute we can offer will be complete only if accompanied by song.”

Greenlee, a senior music education major from Dyersburg, Tennessee, was found dead in her car on an auxiliary part of campus in February. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and sang with University Singers for three years.

“The two things I remember most about Olivia are her song and her smile,” Mathews said. “She loved life, was filled with laughter and had the gift to make a room brighter with her smile.”

The concert is presented by the Union University Department of Music and the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha.

The purpose of the concert is to remember Greenlee and to raise money for the memorial scholarship named in her honor, according to Mathews.

The event will include most of the music department’s ensembles as well as a few selections by the ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha and Cody Curtis, Union music department alumnus. The evening will also include testimonials from Greenlee’s sorority sisters, her boss at Longhorn Steakhouse and her pastor from First Baptist Church in Dyersburg.

A silent auction will be held prior to the concert in the foyer from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Items up for auction include baskets of gift cards for local restaurants, an ATC gym membership and gifts from Jackson-area boutiques.

The concert will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. West Jackson Baptist Church is located at 580 Oil Well Road.

Tickets for the benefit concert are $10 and are available in advance or at the door. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (731) 661-5345.
