HOMECOMING 2002: Union University honors long-time Jackson couple and university supporters

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 12, 2002 – Local Jackson couple and alumni Bob and Mary Ruth Hundley were recently awarded Union University’s Distinguished Service Award at the university’s annual alumni awards luncheon held during Homecoming.

Robert & Mary Ruth Hundley receiving the Distinguished Service Award from Steve Maroney, President of the Alumni Association.

Robert Little Hundley, a 1948 Union graduate and Mary Ruth Pearson Hundley, a 1956 Union graduate, have both remained involved in the university as tireless volunteers, according to Gary Williams, executive director of alumni services at Union.

After graduation from Union, both became employed by the Madison County school system serving important roles there. Mary Ruth served as the library instructional supervisor and watched 22 elementary schools break ground in Madison County. Bob Hundley was the federal programs manager of Madison County Schools.

Outside of work in the school system, the Hundleys remain a consistent part of Union’s future. Bob serves on the National Alumni Association Board of Directors and Mary Ruth is a member of the Union University Ladies Auxiliary.

The Distinguished Service Award is based upon service to mankind and/or Union University by an alumnus/alumna of the University.
