Biomedical scientist to speak at Union

JACKSON, Tenn.March 20, 2002 – Union University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics will host F. Peter Guengerich, director of Vanderbilt University's Center in Molecular Toxicology Friday, March 22 at noon in room A-7 in the university’s Penick Academic Complex. Guengerich's lecture is titled "Cytoschrome P450 Enzymes: Basic Mechanisms & Relevance in Drug Development."

According to Glenn Marsch, associate professor of physics at Union, the medical community will greatly benefit from hearing Guengerich, who is a world leader in cytochromes P450 enzyme research, and has published more than 400 research articles in refereed journals, and 107 invited reviews and book chapters. Of all biomedical scientists in the 1990's, Guengerich is ranked in the top 50 in terms of literature citations. In 1997, he was honored as a Fellow (in Chemistry) of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
