Union University hosts scholar-in-residence for spring 2001

JACKSON, Tenn.March 9, 2001 – David Cook, fellow and chaplain of Green College and a professor of philosophy, ethics and theology at the University of Oxford, will serve as the Spring 2001 scholar-in-residence at Union University beginning Mar. 15.

David Cook will serve as Union's scholar-in-residence during the spring 2001 semester.

A native of Scotland, Cook holds a doctorate from New College, Edinburgh, a master's degree from the University of Oxford and an honorary doctorate from Gordon College. In addition to his work at both Green College and the University of Oxford, Cook teaches medical ethics in the Oxford Medical School and is professor of Christian ethics at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

The author of several books including The Moral Maze and Dilemmas of Life, Cook is a regular broadcaster for the British Broadcasting Company, where he is featured weekly on national radio and television programs to discuss ethical issues. He is also an advisor to the Archbishop of Canterbury and to the British insurance industry. An international speaker on ethical issues, the locations Cook will visit this year include the United States, Germany, Australia, France, the Ukraine and Switzerland.

While at Union, Cook will give four lectures for a series titled "Morality in a Post-Modern World." Lunch will be provided for each in Coburn Dining Room, with the exception of Lecture III, and a question and answer session will follow. The schedule for the lecture series is as follows:
