Union Welcomes the Class of 2007

JACKSON, Tenn.Aug. 26, 2003 – Union University welcomed 410 freshmen to the Jackson campus this fall. The Class of 2007 boasts an average ACT score of 25 and includes six National Merit Finalists.

The group also includes 44 students who were either the valedictorian or salutatorian of their high school class and 86 members of the incoming class who never received a grade in high school lower than an "A." More than 70 percent ranked in the top quarter of their class.

Union President David S. Dockery called the group "one of the brightest in the university's history."

U.S. News & World Report recently named Union University to the top tier of "Southern Universities-Master's." Union ranked seventh in the South for student selectivity, which is based on scores of enrollees on the SAT or ACT, the proportion of enrolled freshmen who graduated in the top 25 of their classes, and the ratio of students admitted to applicants.

"The quality of the freshman class demonstrates why Union was ranked seventh in student selectivity," said Kathie Chute, associate vice president for university relations and enrollment services. "We are proud of the university's standard for academic excellence and very pleased that such high caliber students have selected Union to further their education."

With the addition of the Class of 2007, Union University's student body now includes students from 44 of the 50 states and 36 countries.
