Doug Merritt to perform at Union University

JACKSON, Tenn.Feb. 17, 2004 – Union University’s Department of Music will host a violin recital by Doug Merritt on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartley Recital Hall, located in Jennings Hall. Deanna Shipley will accompany Merritt on the piano.

The program will include pieces such as “Near to the Heart of God,” arranged by Steven Taylor and David Hamilton, and “Sonata for Violin and Piano (Opus 78),” by Johannes Brahms.

Merritt has performed with many orchestras around the country and has toured Europe twice. He currently lives in Hendersonville, Tenn., and he performs with orchestras in Paducah, Ky.; Huntsville, Ala.; Jackson and Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Shipley resides in Nashville, Tenn., where she teaches piano for the Allegro School of Music and for Western Kentucky University’s Keyboard Development Program. She also works as a vocal accompanist and coach at Belmont University.

Union University Announcement for March 6

Due to inclement weather, all Union campuses will be closed on Friday, March 6, with all classes canceled.

The wellness center will open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., and the aquatic center will be open from 1-3 p.m.

Friday's Preview Day has been canceled.

Brewer Dining Hall will be open from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lex will be closed. No breakfast will be served.
