Before Union: Jost transferred to Union from Fort Scott Community College where he played two years of baseball. He was named first team all-conference and all-region as a freshman at Fort Scott. He hit .404 with 14 doubles and four home runs. He hit .333 in limited action due to injury as a sophomore. In high school, Jost was named all-conference three times and all-state twice. Off the field, Jost was an Academic All-American as a sophomore at Fort Scott.
