The Union University Lady Bulldog softball team lost two games in the opening day of the Union University Classic. No. 7 Union lost first to No. 11 Thomas University (Ga.) 4-2 and then followed that with a loss to No. 34 Mid-Continent College 5-4 in eight innings. Union in now 14-4 on the season. In the earlier games, No. 34 Mid-Continent defeated No.21 Athens State University 3-1 and Thomas defeated Athens State 3-0.
In Union's first game, the Lady Bulldogs fell behing 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. However, with back-to-back RBI hits by Amy Mejia and Christina Johnson, Union scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead. Thomas added two runs in the top of the sixth to get the win between two Top-15 teams. Union's Leah Gronberg took her second loss of the season to fall to 7-2 overall. Marianger Bogado, a former member of the Valenzuala National Team, eaned with win for Thomas with 12 strikeouts in seven innings.
Game two saw Union jump out to a 2-0 in the second inning. Mid-Continent, a team Union has defeated twice this season, came storming back with a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Union answer on RBI's by Jessica Kee and Crystal Surgalski tied the game at 4-4. In the eighth inning, Mid-Continent scored their fifth and final run of the game on a wild pitch by Kosco. Union had runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the eighth but failed to score. Kosco to the loss to fall to 7-2 overall. Mid-Continent's Holly Shook earned the win.
