Union Result: W 6-0

The Union University Soccer team opened the 2001 TranSouth Conference season with a convincing 6-0 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University. The Bulldogs had been shutout by top NAIA schools in their previous two games, but would explode for six goals against Trevecca Nazarene. This would be the first game for Union since September 8.

Union would strike early for two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Scott Marksberry would score first with his first goal of the season, and Josue Tuchez would add his first goal of the season off a corner kick assisted by Daniel Banks. The Bulldogs would hold there and take a 2-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Bulldogs picked up where they had left off, with Adrian Yeung send two shots to the back of the net for his first two goals of the season. Less than three minutes later, Nicola Barjaktarevic would add his first goal of the year. With five minutes remaining, freshman Ricky Mena scored his first collegiate goal to cap Union's scoring. The Bulldogs would outshoot Trevecca 13-2. Jacob Harlow and Joe Shrum would combine for seven saves for Trevecca. Union's freshman goalie, and Jackson native, Jacob O'Brien, would come in late in the game to record two saves.

Union will be at home again on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. as they host Williams Baptist College of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.
