The Union University basketball team began their quest for their eighth consecutive conference championship as they defeated Lee University . Union improves to 31-2 overall while Lee ends their season at 9-21.
Lee jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the game. Little did they know that they would not score for 12 minutes. Union went on a 32-0 run to take a 34-6 lead. With 7 minutes left in the first half, Lee final scored. Union led 53-17 at halftime. The second half was much of the same as Union came out firing. Union outscored Lee 48-36 in the second half. Union shot 48% from the field and 29% (6-21) from the three point line. Union made 19-of-23 free throws. Union held Lee to just 34% shooting from the field and 7% (1-15) from behind the arc. Union also outrebounded Lee 58-34 including 26-17 on the offensive boards.
Union was led paced with five players in double figures. Jessica Henson led with 20 points. Tashekia Brown and Ginger Bryant added 19 points apiece, Monica Elliot scored 13 points and Allison Harrison scored 11. Harrison and Bryant each tallied double-doubles for Union as Harrison grabbed 12 rebounds and Bryant added 11 boards. Lee was led by Holly Hamilton with a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Heidi Hamilton added 14 points.
