JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/25/2007 - The Union University men's golf team posted victory in their first tournament of the fall. Union hosted the Union University Fall Invitational at Falcon Ridge Golf Club. Union scored a 609 for the tournament, three shots ahead of Cumberland University's 612.
Finishing third in the tournament was UT Martin (614), followed by Lyon College (627), Bethel College (628), Trevecca Nazarene University (635), Union University - B Team (635), and Cumberland University B-Team (659).
The Union win was special for Union head coach Andy Rushing as it was the first tournament title for him in his second year as the head coach of Union golf. It was also special because the winning Union team was made up of all freshman and sophomores.
Lyon's Brock Bullard won the individual tournament title in a playoff win with a score of 147.
Making the All-Tournament team was Brock Bullard (Lyon), Brad Robbins (Lambuth Individual), Same Bass (Bethel), Jake Joyner (UT Martin), and Josh Young (Cumberland).
Union's three high scorers were three players tied for No. 7 at 151, Mills Hamaguchi (Union A), Gary Glapa (Union - B), and Tyler Lay (Union Individual). The winning scores for Union along with Hamaguchi to give the Bulldogs the title were, No. 11 Jake Carrol (152), No. 12 Clay Mallard (153), No. 14 Micah Gentle (155), and No. 14 Brian Glover (155).
