JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/29/2008 - Brian Lake of Union University has been named the Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending January 27, 2008. He joins Crichton’s Stanlee Brownlee with the honor.
For Lake, this marks the second straight week that he has been tabbed as the TranSouth Player of the Week.
Lake, a 6-foot-6 junior from Bolivar, Tenn., averaged a double-double on the week with 27 points and 10 rebounds. In the Bulldog’s 90-88 loss at Freed-Hardeman he scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with 11-of-23 shooting from the field and hit 5-of-7 from three-point range. In Union’s 125-85 win at Blue Mountain he scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and added three assists and had a pair of steals. He hit 11-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from long range.
For the week he hit 22-of-37 (59%) from the field, 8-of-11 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the foul line.
Union, winners in four of their last five games, is now 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the TranSouth.
Up next for Union will be a home game versus Mid-Continent University (Ky.) on Thursday, January 31. The women will play at 6:00 pm, followed by the men’s game at 8:00 pm.
