JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/28/2008 - The No. 1 ranked Union University Lady Bulldogs improved to 28-0 on the season and just one win away from finishing with a perfect regular season. The Lady Bulldogs posted a 106-53 win over Blue Mountain College (Miss.) to go to 17-0 in the TranSouth. Blue Mountain dropped to 5-23 on the year and 1-16 in league play.
Union has now won 49 of their last 51 games, dating back to January 11, 2007.
Union jumped out early and never trailed in a the game. The Lady Bulldogs held a 59-23 halftime lead. Union shot 67-percent from the field, including 57-percent (8-14) from behind the arc in the first half.
The second half was more of the same from the field as Union posted 62-percent shooting from the field, but only managed 2-of-7 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes. Union outscored Blue Mountain 47-30 in the final half.
In the game, Union was led by Joesephine Owino and Kaitlin Dudley with 20 points each. Beatrice Awino added 16 points, Kayla Hudson posted 14 points, and Crystal Eason scored 13 points, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Union shot 64-percent from the field, 48-percent (10-21) from behind the arc, and 67-percent (10-15) from the free throw line.
Blue Mountain was led by Lana Harris with 13 points and Nicole Curtis with 11 points. Blue Mountain shot 31-percent from the field, 26-percent from three point range, and 75-percent (6-8) from the free throw line.
Up next for Union will be their final regular season game in Mayfield, Kentucky at Mid-Continent University on Saturday, March 1. The women will play at 2:00 pm followed by the men at 4:00 pm.
