Neaville Breaks Two Records in Union's Fourth Straight Win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/28/2008 - The Union University Bulldogs posted their fourth straight win Thursday night with a 134-69 victory over Blue Mountain College (Miss.). The Bulldogs are now 17-12 on the season and 11-8 in TranSouth Conference play. The Toppers fell to 0-29 on the year and 0-19 in conference.

The Bulldogs were again carried by junior guard Matt Neaville. With his first made three pointer of the game, Neaville set a new Union record for three pointers made in season with 135. Neaville continued shooting from the behind the arc to finish the game with 39 points, including 11 made three pointers. With his eleventh three pointer, Neaville passed the old record of 10 three pointers in a game held by himself and Union Graduate Assistant Coach Chima Abakwue.

Union started the game on Neaville’s record-setting three pointer, just 24 seconds into the first half, and never looked back. Union continued to add to their lead, taking a 35-point advantage into halftime. The Bulldogs shot 57-percent from the field (26-of-46) and 45-percent from behind the arc (10-of-22) in the first half.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off to begin the second half. Union stretched the lead to their biggest of the game with 35 seconds left on the clock at 68 points (134-66). A quick three pointer by Blue Mountain set the final score at 134-69.

Union was led by Neaville’s 39 points, including 11-of-20 (55-percent) from behind the arc. All nine Bulldogs who played scored in the game, including eight in double figures. Keith Tolliver added 17 points, while Brian Lake scored 14. Brandon Lay scored his career high 13 points. Veljko Petrovic posted his first career double-double on the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Roland Banhoro also posted a double-double for the Bulldogs with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Tony Brown and Tacuma Alexander each added 11 points for the Bulldogs in the win.

Blue Mountain was led on the night by Jon Estes with 19 points. Jay Ewing added 12 for the Toppers.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be the final game of the regular season. Union will play on the road at Mid-Continent University (Ky.) Saturday, March 1 at 4 pm. The Bulldog's game will be preceded by the Lady Bulldog’s game at 2 pm.
