JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/6/2008 - The Union University Lady Bulldogs split a double-header with Mid-Continent University Thursday. The Bulldogs are now 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in TranSouth Conference play. Mid-Continent is now 4-10, 2-4 this season.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind Mid-Continent early in the first game, 4-1. They began a comeback in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI ground out by Lindsey Landreneau that scored Amy Chatham. Ashley Blankenship then doubled to score Michelle Albonetti, but the comeback was short-lived as another ground out ended the inning. Mid-Continent posted two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-3. A final comeback attempt by the Lady Bulldogs fell short as they fell to Mid-Continent by a final score of 6-5.
The second game was a different story as Union posted an 8-0 victory on a no-hitter by Lady Bulldog senior Amy Chatham. The Lady Bulldogs scored often and early to complete the shut out of Mid-Continent in five innings. Union's offense was led by Brittany Burkett who went 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI.
Up next, the Lady Bulldogs will be hosting the Union Univeristy Invitational at Fesmire Field, Friday and Saturday, March 7-8. The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to play Spring Arbor University (Mich.) at 1 pm on Friday and again at 3 pm.
