JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/26/2008 - The Union University Baseball team posted their third straight win with a double-header sweep of Indiana University-Southeast 12-0 and 9-4. This also marks Union's seventh win in their past nine games. Union improved to 14-7 with today's two wins, while Indiana-Southeast dropped to 11-12 on the year.
Union used a six run third and six run fourth inning to run-rule IUSE in the first game. Bryan Wagner for Union moved to 3-1 with a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and recording three strikeouts. Union was led offensively by Humboldt native Judson Powers who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Fellow Humboldt native James Brasfield posted a 2-for-2 day with four RBI including a triple. Grant Luke was also 3-for-3 on the day with an RBI.
Game two saw the Bulldogs jump out to an early lead with three run in the first inning. Going into the sixth inning, Union led 5-1 when IUSE's Drew Locascio popped a three-run homer over the left field fence to cut the Union lead to just one. However, the Bulldogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain control of the game. Union's Shaun Cozart went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs, including a homerun. Ben Ayris moved to 2-0 with six innings of work, allowing four runs, three earned on five hits. Josh Holman tossed a perfect top half of the seventh inning.
Up next for Union will be a three-game conference set in Pulaski, Tennessee on Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29.
