Local Basketball Standouts to Scrimmage with Lady Bulldogs

Jackson, Tenn. - 6/25/2002 - The Union University Lady Bulldogs are hosting their annual girls boarding camp this week. Head Coach Mark Campbell is leading this camp, with the help of his current Lady Bulldog squad and some of West Tennessee’s top girl’s basketball players. The scrimmage will be opened to the public and there in no charge for admission.

On Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. at Union’s Fred DeLay Gymnasium, Campbell will take a break from teaching and give the campers and public a treat as he will split off the instructors into two teams and let them scrimmage. This is an opportunity for the top basketball players in the area to play with and against Union’s squad. Players such as Scotts Hill’s Crystal Eason, Bradford’s Meredith Richardson, Gibson County’s Whitney Beard, Trinity’s Ashley Thomspon, Dyersburg’s Stacy Huff, and Northside’s Sha Brooks are on Union’s campus this week helping with camp instruction. These six high school standouts will be mixed with current Union players for a scrimmage that is open to the public.

All of these players are being recruited by Coach Campbell and the Union coaching staff. Coach Campbell states, “This is a great opportunity for us to get to know these girls, and also for them to get to know our players”. Campbell goes on to say, “We can get a good look at how they work with other people and how hard they work on the court.”

University of Memphis transfer, Laura Mitchell will be playing, along with returning Lady Bulldogs such as All-Americans, Jessica Henson and Christal Merriweather. Other Union players include, Tashekia Brown, Jennifer Henson, Laura Davidson, Ginger Bryant, Miriam Wandanda, and Monica Elliot.
