Union cross country signs Mt. Juliet runner

JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/7/2008 - Hannah Staggs of Mt. Juliet has signed to run cross country for the Union University Lady Bulldogs. Staggs, Mt. Juliet’s Salutatorian, will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine.

Staggs prepped at Mt. Juliet Christian Academy where she ran cross country and played softball. In cross country, she was a three-time individual qualifier for the TSSAA State Championships, three-time regional finalist, four-time varsity MVP, and twice qualified for the AAU National Championships. Staggs' softball career earned her such honors as Best Team Player, Best Offensive Player, Team MVP, and the Jeff Bates Award. She was selected for All-District in 2008 and holds several team records including single season and career stolen bases.

Union head coach Gary Johnson states, “Hannah is going to add some talent to our team along with an outstanding academic background, spiritual maturity, and enjoyable personality. We look for Hannah to improve during her freshman year as she becomes a part of a team for the first time in a few years”. Staggs always had to run alone in high school and competed as an individual. Johnson adds, “I believe practicing with other talented runners will bring out the best in Hannah's running.”

Staggs matched her athletic success with success in the classroom. She was her class Salutatorian, a member of the National Honor Society, and a Tennessee Scholar.
