Jackson, Tenn. - 7/3/2002 - The Union University golf program has added Derek Clements to their 2002-03 team. Clements was a 2001 graduate of the University School of Jackson. He follows in the footsteps of his families footsteps to become the fourth generation of Union athletes in his family.
Clements, at 6-foot-2 180 lbs, was a three-sport star at USJ as he played baseball, basketball, and golf. He has a handicap of .8. Union’s head coach, Don Morris says of Clements, “He can contend for one of the top spots on our team. He’s that good of a golfer.” In his baseball career, he was the 1999 MVP of the state summer tournament and was their leading hitter.
Union will open their fall season in mid September and will play four or five tournaments, including a tournament at Bear Trace hosted by Freed-Hardeman and also an NCAA-II at Delta State University in Mississippi. Dates have not been finalized as of yet.
