Union women's soccer takes down Georgetown 4-1

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/5/2008 - The Union University Lady Bulldogs improved their season record to 2-1 with a 4-1 victory over Georgetown (Ky.) College. Collierville native Candice Blackard recorded two goals in the win.

Union and Georgetown played a scoreless first half, before the Lady Bulldogs broke through with a goal from Jamie Haynes early in the second half. Georgetown tied the game 16 minutes later on a goal from Ashley Stilgal.

However, just five minutes later, Union's Caitlin Zimmerman broke the tie with a goal, followed by two goals from Blackard. Blackard's two goals came within two minutes of play. Zimmerman, Haynes, and Christina Reardon each added one assist in the match.

Union's Laura Pla, last week's TranSouth Defensive Player of the Week, record three saves in the contest.

The Union reserve team also recorded a win over Georgetown by the score of 2-1. Rachel Fillinger scored both goals with Leah Bender tallied one assist.

Up next for Union will be another game in the state of Kentucky with a match at Asbury College in Wilmore.
