JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/22/2008 - The Union University softball program opened their fall practice with a scrimmage with the University of Tennessee-Martin. In game one, both team played to a scoreless tie, while UT Martin took the second game 7-3.
In the first game, Henderson native and Union senior, Bethany Burnett was just one error shy of tossing a perfect game. She pitched seven innings, allowing no hits and no walks, while striking out four batters. Union's offense managed two hits, one each from Ali Bozza of Jackson and Ali Thomas.
The second game featured a bit more offense with both teams combining for 23 hits (13 UTM, 10 UU). Union was led by former Trinity Christian standout, Bozza, with a 4-for-4 game. Bolivar native Kristen Kirk was 2-for-2 with the day's only homerun.
Up next for Union this fall will be action in the UT-Martin 17-Team Tournament on September 27. Union will play Three Rivers CC at 11:00 am, Rend Lake CC at 3:00 pm, Chattanooga State CC at 5:00 pm, and Itawamba CC at 7:00 pm.
