Union's Andy Rushing Receives Coach of the Year Honor

Jackson, Tenn. - 8/16/2002 - Union University’s head baseball coach, Andy Rushing, has been named as the 2002 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Diamond Sports Company NAIA Region XI Coach of the Year. Rushing will be honored at the ABCA National Convention in San Diego, CA on January 2-5, 2003.

Rushing, a 1976 graduate of Union University, was also named as the TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year and the NAIA Region XI Coach of the Year during the 2002 season. This marks the second ABCA Region Coach of the year Award for Rushing in the past three seasons.

This past season proved to be another success for Rushing as the Bulldogs finished 44-20 on the year. He led his Bulldogs to the TranSouth Conference regular season and tournament championships and his third straight regional tournament appearance. Rushing has won the TranSouth Conference regular season title in two of the past three seasons and has been to the region tournament in four of the past five seasons. Rushing has an overall 18-year coaching record of 569-391 and a 14-year Union coaching record of 485-293 (62%). He has put together nine consecutive 30-plus win seasons and has won 40 in three of the past five years.
