Jackson, Tenn. - 10/6/2001 - Union falls to Lambuth University in the third annual Jackson Cup by the score of 0-1. Lambuth improves their record to 4-5-1 and Union drops to 4-6 on the season. For the third time in as many years, the visiting team has come away victorious. Lambuth leads the all-time series 3-1.
Neither team could provide much offense in the first half as both teams took only two shots on goal each. Ten minutes into the second half, Union managed to get off a series of shots on goal, however, all were near misses as they hit the goal post on two occasions. With 26 minutes left in the game, Lambuth's Marco Ferraina rebounded a Jeff Lean save and struke with the game's only score. Union outshot Lambuth 8-6 and led in corner kicks 12-4.
Lambuth's goalie, David Logue, played a tremendous game as he tallied eight saves to get the shut-out. Jeff Lean of Union would save five shots in the game, one of which was a penalty kick with 14 minutes remaining.
