Union men’s soccer puts three on All-Conference team, eight named scholar athletes

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/25/2008 - Following a season in which Union University posted a third place finish in the TranSouth Conference regular season standings, the Bulldogs had three players named to the TranSouth All-Conference team. Wagner Oliviera, Paul Turner, and James Landham were each to the second team.

Oliviera, a 5-foot-9 forward, is from Ipatinga, Brazil. He recorded six goals on 30 shots, while adding two assists on the season. Oliviera also posted one game winning goal on the season.

Turner, a 5-foot-5 junior midfielder, is from Huntsville, Ala. He recorded a team high eight goals and 17 points on the season. Turner also added 1 assist and had two game winning goals on the season.

Landham, a 6-foot-2 goalkeeper, is from Hendersonville, Tenn. He took over the Union starting role early in the season. He recorded 44 saves in 1075 minutes played. He allowed just 10 goals in 11 matches and recorded two shutouts on the year.

Union also boasted eight players on the TranSouth Scholar Athlete list. This list includes sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with at least a 3.0 GPA. Kevin Bradley, Jared Carpenter, Rabo Garba, Brian Jones, Mathew Lynn, Hananiah Nyabam, Alessandro Oliveira, and Jordan Thompson each earned this honor.

Union finished the season 9-6-2 overall and 5-2 in the TranSouth.
