Union women remain No. 1 for 19th consecutive poll; Men up to No. 9

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/26/2009 - Union University's Lady Bulldogs were ranked No. 1 in the latest NAIA National Poll. This tallies the 19th straight time the Lady Bulldogs held the top ranking. After a perfect week, the men of Union University moved up one spot to No. 9.

The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up a perfect week, going 2-0 in league play with a record-setting performance in their win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Jan. 24. The Lady Bulldogs shot .709 from the field, surpassing the previous record of .688 versus Lindenwood (Mo.) University in 1995. The Lady Bulldogs are now 19-1 overall, with a 7-0 record in league play. The next game for the Lady Bulldogs is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29 on the road at Bethel (Tenn.) College at 6 pm.

The Bulldogs also recorded a 2-0 week on an average margin of victory of 40 points. The Bulldogs are now 16-4 on the year, and 6-1 in TranSouth Conference play. The Bulldogs will play on Thursday, Jan. 29 at Bethel (Tenn.) College. The men's contest is set to tip off at 8 pm, following the women's game.
