JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/12/2009 - The Union University baseball team is off to a 3-0 start following Thursday's 15-5 win over Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University. Union scored in each of the first five innings, before posting three in the bottom of the eight to earn the win.
Union's Danny Alberty (1-0) earned the win after pitching five innings of relief, allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Cody Dew tossed a scoreless final two innings of relief after Greg Harrington only lasted one inning in the start.
David Maristany again led the Bulldogs with a 3-for-4 day, including three RBI and a homerun. Huntingdon native Cole McAdams was also 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Grant Luke added two hits on the day. Union pounded out 12 hits in the contest.
Christian Brothers made it interesting early by scoring five runs over the first three innings, leading 5-4 going into the bottom of the third.
Ben Chism took the loss, allowing four runs in three innings of relief work.
Up next for Union will be a three game set the weekend, February 13-14, at Fesmire Field. McKendree (Ill.) University travels to Union for a 3:00 pm game on Friday and a 1:00 noon double-header on Saturday.
