JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/18/2009 - The Union University Lady Bulldog basketball team will join efforts with hundreds of women’s college basketball teams across the country this week by promoting breast cancer awareness. Union’s night will be Thursday, February 19 when the No. 1 ranked Lady Bulldogs play host to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at 6:00 pm at Union’s Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has organized Pink Zone, which allows teams to jointly promote, raise money, and help bring awareness to cancer.
Mark Campbell, head coach of the Union Lady Bulldogs says, “Anytime we can use our talents to glorify God, show our love for others, and help meet needs, we should always invest our time and efforts. This is a great cause and our team is proud to be able to contribute.”
Several other Union sports teams have participated in similar events over the past years. Also, for the third year in a row, Union University and the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx are teaming for Breast Cancer Pink Jersey Auction on May 9, 2009.
Over the past seasons, Union has raised several thousand dollars in their different cancer awareness events across all sports. Money raised during these events is applied to the Union University Relay for Life team’s contribution to the American Cancer Society.
