JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/20/2009 - In two high scoring games at Fesmire Field, Union University dropped their first games on the season to No. 19 Missouri Baptist University 12-11 and 16-12 in eight innings.
Union led 8-4 in the first game, but allowed eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to go down 12-8. Union put three runs up in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead down to 12-11. However, for the second time in as many innings, Union left the bases loaded.
In game two, Union trailed 6-4, but rallied to lead 8-6 after four innings. Union also led 12-10 going into the top of the seventh, but allowed the Spartans two runs to tie the game at 12-12. Union was not able to score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extras. Missouri Baptist struck for four runs in the top half of the eighth to put the game away.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, February 21 at noon for the third and final game of this three-game set at Union's Fesmire Field.
