KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 3/2/2009 - The men of Union University moved up one spot in the latest NAIA National Rankings to No. 6 after posting a perfect 3-0 week. Union’s Lady Bulldogs have now been ranked No. 1 in the NAIA rankings for 24 consecutive polls.
The men put together a 3-0 week to close out regular season play. After erasing an 18-point second half deficit, the Bulldogs completed the come-from-behind win over Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 78-75, on Tuesday. The Bulldogs then posted a 121-73 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College Thursday night. Then with Union’s 89-75 win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) College Saturday, the Bulldogs clinched the TranSouth Conference title. With the wins, the men completed the regular season 25-5 overall and 14-2 in league play. Up next for the men will be a match up in the quarterfinal round of the TranSouth Conference tournament. The game will tip off on Thursday, March 5, at 7 pm at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
On the women’s side, the Lady Bulldogs (29-1, 16-0) also posted three conference wins this week, completing their second consecutive perfect conference record. The Lady Bulldogs posted an 88-70 win over Trevecca Nazarene. The ladies of Union also defeated Blue Mountain 108-44, and then knocked off Mid-Continent 109-47 to complete the perfect conference season. The next game for the women will also be a game in the quarterfinal round of the TranSouth Conference tournament. The match up is set for 7 pm in Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Wednesday, March 4.
