Union men's cross country adds Alabama runner to 2009 roster

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/7/2009 - The Union University men's cross country program recently added Drake Ott to their roster, beginning in the 2009-10 season. Drake comes from a successful high school program at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Ala.

Drake, at 5-foot-5 and 120 lbs., prepped at Oak Mountain High School where he was a four sport athlete. In addition to cross country, Drake ran track, both outdoor and indoor, while also playing two seasons of soccer. He placed 4th in the 2008 and 2009 Mercedes Marathon, age 16-19 division. Drake has participated in numerous races during his high school career ranging from 5K up to marathon distances. Drake earned a commendation for community service three times while also posting a 3.7 GPA in the classroom.

"Drake comes from an outstanding family background and will add depth to our program in athletics, academics, and spiritual life." says Coach Gary Johnson. Johnson adds, "Drake is great young man who fits in well with the guys on our current team. We look for Drake to be a strong contributor right away with his experience and attitude."

Drake is a member of Shadow Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham. He is involved with dance, show choir, unicycling, ultimate Frisbee, waterskiing, and rock climbing. Drake’s parents are Greg and Corilyn Ott, and he has a younger brother named Brice.

Drake plans to major in Athletic Training and then pursue a degree in Physical Therapy.
