JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/15/2009 - Stanley McNeil has signed to continue his college basketball career with the Union University Bulldogs. This marks the first signing for David Niven in his new role as head coach of the Bulldogs. McNeil, a native of Memphis, Tenn., will enter Union this fall as a junior.
McNeil, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard, has spent the past two seasons playing at Jackson State Community College. He played his high school basketball at Treadwell High School in Memphis. McNeil averaged 20 points, three assists, and two steals per game at Jackson State. He led the region with 89 made three pointers as a sophomore, while setting a Jackson State record with 104 made three pointers as a freshman. He was selected as a first team All-Conference and All-Region performer as a sophomore. McNeil was also selected as a 2008-09 Pre-Season NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.
Niven says, “I am thrilled that Stan has chosen to finish his career at Union. I know he has been well coached as Deron Hines does a great job developing players.” Niven adds, “I also know that he is a great kid. My players are excited about having him as a teammate. He was the best shooter in his league this year and that fills a need for our team."
