Union men’s soccer opens 2009 season with win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/29/2009 - The Union University men’s soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 3-0 shutout over Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College on Saturday afternoon. Brewton-Parker falls to 0-2 on the young season.

Union wasted no time in taking the early lead with a goal from Chris Waugh, assisted by Dejan Kostic, in the seventh minute of play. The Bulldogs added a second goal in the first half when Kevin Bradley hit the back of the net in the 30th minute.

Just two minutes into the second half, Union scored again, to put the lead at a comfortable margin at 3-0. Guilherme Reis’ goal was the final of the game at Union completed the shutout.

J. Landham and Mike Phelan combined for the shutout, each recording one save in the match. Union out shot Brewton-Parker 22-5.

Up next for Union will be on Tuesday, September 1 when the Bulldogs travel to play at Milligan (Tenn.) College at 5:00 p.m.
